Homo Photosyntheticus Lab at Antre-Peaux” in Bourges, Fr (June 2022-December 2024 – 30 months)

Co-funded by the Region Centre-Val-de-Loire the Homo Photosyntheticus Lab was hosted at the art center of Antre Peaux in Bourges, France for 30 months. The art center provided a biolab (Ursulab) and kitchen, a multidisciplinary & workshops space (Haidouc), a media art and sound studio and a film editing studio and online platform. It also offered curation, mediation, communication and dissemination support.

The city of Bourges is surrounded by a unique water landscape shaped by a man-made drainage system known as les marais, dating back to the Middle Ages. Bourges, with a population of approximately 70,000, is the capital of the Cher department and has been designated as a European Capital of Culture for 2028.

Located on the outskirts of the city center, Antre-Peaux is a cultural friche—a hybrid space that includes an exhibition hall, concert venue, sound studios, library, education center, and studios for dance and performance. Its multipurpose structure supports a wide range of contemporary art, music, and performance practices, with a strong background in subculture, punk, LGBTQ+, and queer communities. The venue also offers inclusive access for people with disabilities. Antre-Peaux is known for its rich educational programming, fostering intergenerational exchange and encouraging the inclusion of all sectors of society. In 2020, the space expanded its infrastructure by opening an Art, Ecology Society laboratory and a mastering sound studio, further supporting experimentation across disciplines.

Being supported by the Region Centre-Val-de-Loire the Lab activities also extended to collaborations with the Fabrique d’Usages Numériques (FUN lab, Tours) and the Labomedia medialab (Orleans), long term regional partners of the Antre Peaux.
